Barbara Jean (Lauman) Thorpe

Barbara Jean Thorpe, age 88, of Monticello passed away on March 27, 2024. She was born in Hopkins, MN to Gilbert and Mildred Lauman, February 2, 1936.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, bird watching, and raising chickens; in her younger years she read numerous books; enjoyed fishing, mudding, and horseback riding at the cabin; and teaching Sunday school at the Palisade Assembly of God. Above all, she cherished her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Barbara will be remembered fondly for her sweet, kind demeanor; her cool, collected personality; and her distinctive voice. She retired from her cooking job in the Monticello schools in 1998 and moved to McGregor, MN.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, James Thorpe; her father, Gilbert Lauman; her mother, Mildred Moore; and her two younger sisters, Sharon and Sandy.

She is survived by her daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kim (Vern) Garberich parents of Jamie and Michael (Alison) Garberich, Linda (Dan) Elstad parents of Brent (Brienne) and Derek Elstad, Cindy (Brian) Pemberton parents of Alec and Preston Pemberton; and her great-grandchildren Caleb Ludwig, Soo-yeon Griffith-Garberich, Carson Kolles, Jameson Elstad, and Jackson Elstad.

Services will be held at Peterson Grimsmo Funeral Chapel on April 1, 2024 at 2 PM. A public visitation will be held one hour prior and burial will follow the service.
